Summary of Methods of Teaching and Training the Music Therapist by Cheryl Dileo PDF

The Temple University Studies on Music Therapy Education are the results of a two-year research investigation supported by Temple University. The research investigation had several goals with respect to music therapy education and training: to examine existing academic and clinical training requirements; to survey current methods of teaching and supervision; to identify contemporary problems, issues, and trends; to propose directions for the future; and to provide a set of readings for use in training music therapy teachers and supervisors. These goals were accomplished through several projects, including an analysis of college catalogs and internship manuals, a national survey of educators, clinicians, and supervisors, and the indexing of master's thesis research. This book is about the results of a national survey of over 1,100 music therapists. The purpose of the survey was to analyze and compare responses of educators, internship supervisors, and practicing clinicians with regard to survey questions on topics such as the goals of a music therapy education, competencies of music therapy, and teaching methods and materials.
